Alliin exhibits anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-hypertensive, cardioprotective, and anti-oxidant activities. It has been shown to inhibit squalene monooxygenase, a rate-limiting step in the downstream pathway of cholesterol biosynthesis, with an IC50 value of 120 μM.
