تريهالوز هو ثنائي السكريد غير المخفض الطبيعي الموجود في النباتات واللافقاريات والفطريات والبكتيريا. بالإضافة إلى دوره كمصدر للطاقة وحامية من التوتر، يمكن أن يؤدي تريهالوز دورًا كمادة إشارية. تعد تراهيلوز 6- فسفات مادة وسطية في عملية تخليل التراهيلوز. يتم إنتاجه من UDP-glucose and glucose 6-phosphate بواسطة مُحَثِّلَّةُ تْروَحِيلُولْ فُسْفَات (TPS or otsA). في النباتات، يتغير مستوى التراهيلول 6- فسفات بشكل ايجابى خلال التغير الدورى للاسترواء، حيث قد يؤدي إلى ضبط عملية شاملة، بما في ذلك تحليل نشاء وإزدهار.
