Cefprozil monohydrate (BMY-28100) is an orally administered cephalosporin and second-cephalosporin type antibiotic [1].

Cefprozil monohydrate has been reported to resistant to hydrolysis by the beta-lactmases. In addition, Cefprozil monohydrate has been found to be more active than either of the other agents against methicillin-susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis and all streptococci. For example, the MIC90 values are ≥16μg/ml,1.0μg/ml, 4μg/ml and>128μg/ml for enterococci, Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin susceptible), Listeria monocytogenes and JK corynebacteria, respectively. Apart from these, Cefprozil monohydrate has been revealed to inhibit both β-lactamase-producing and β-lactamase-negative strains of H. influenzae with the MIC value of ranging from 2 to16μg/ml [1].
