Background

Laurdan ist eine membranpermeable fluoreszierende Sonde, die spektrale Empfindlichkeit für die Phospholipidphase der Zellmembran aufweist, an die sie gebunden ist. Die Quantifizierung der generalisierten Polarisation (GP) von Laurdan kann zur Identifizierung der Phospholipidphase verwendet werden. Bei Anregung bei 340 nm betragen die GP-Werte für Gel-Phase und flüssig-kristalline Phase jeweils 0,6 und -0,2. GP ändert sich nicht mit polarer Kopfgruppe oder pH-Wert (im Bereich von 4-10); es ändert sich nur mit dem Phasenzustand.
