(±)-β-トコフェロールは、抗酸化活性を持つ脂溶性のビタミンEの形態です。EC50値が68.2μMである2,2-ジフェニル-1-ピクリルヒドラジルラジカルを除去します。マウスRAW 264.7マクロファージ細胞において、(±)-β-トコフェロール(100μM)はLPS誘導性COX-2遺伝子発現を阻害します。 (±)?α?トコフェロールとは異なり、(±)?β?トコフェロールは平滑筋細胞増殖を阻害せず、PKC活性を減少させず、リン酸化タンパク質フォスファターゼ2A(PP2A)活性を増加させず、α?トロポミオシン遺伝子の発現も変更しません。
