植物に存在する天然の単糖であるD-グルコースは、生物の主要なエネルギー源です[1]。細胞は有酸素または無酸素呼吸のいずれかで代謝中間体として使用します。D-グルコースにはα-D-グルコースとβ-D-グルコースの2つの環状形があり、異性中心部位に置換基が位置することによって区別されます[2]。α-D-グルコースはデンプン中のモノマー単位であり、一方、β-D-グルコースはセルロース中のモノマー単位です[2]。これら異性体を溶液に加えると、開放的なチェーン形式を介して互いに可逆的なエピメリゼーションを起こし、溶液特有回転度が徐々に変化し平衡点まで到達します。この単一単糖分子の多数結合構造が存在することから、配位子結合確率を増やすための化合物設計模型として研究されています[3]
