ガングリオシドGM1アシアロは、細胞脂質ラフトの成分であり、ニューラミニダーゼによるガングリオシドGM1から唾液酸残基を切断することで形成されます。ガングリオシドGM1アシアロは、P. aeruginosaフラジェリンの糖蛋白受容体であり、抗ガングリオシドGM1アシアロ抗体やフラジェリンに刺激された場合には細胞外ATP放出、カルシウム動員およびERK1/2のリン酸化など宿主細胞内防御反応を促進します。自然キラー(NK)細胞およびCD8+ T細胞中のガングリオシドGM1アシアロ陽性割合は、呼吸器合胞体ウイルス(RSV)感染マウスモデルでは健康な動物と比較して増加します。ガングリオシドGM1アシアロ陽性NKおよびT細胞の減少は肺IFN-γレベル低下、体重減少およびRSV感染マウスにおける肺ウイルス量の増加につながります。ガングリオシドGM1アシアロ混合物には、C18:1およびC20:1スフィンゴイドバックボーンを持つガングリオシドGM1アシアロ分子種が含まれています。
