イソガルシノールは、Garcinia属の植物種から最初に単離された天然ポリイソプレニル化ベンゾフェノンです。免疫抑制作用を持ち、タンパク質フォスファターゼカルシニューリン(IC50 = 36μM)を阻害し、T細胞の増殖を抑制します。マウスへのイソガルシノールの経口投与は、遅延型過敏症を減少させ、異種皮膚移植における移植片生着期間を延長し、コラーゲン誘発性関節炎における炎症を抑制し、実験的自己免疫性脳脊髄炎の臨床症状を減少させます。また、HL-60とPC-3がん細胞の増殖も阻害します(それぞれIC50 = 4および8μg/ml)、細胞周期停止やアポトーシスなどが原因です。
