Gweicurculactone is a sesquiterpene and cytotoxin found in the root tuber of Curcuma wenyujin Y. H. Chen et C. Ling. Gweicurculactone exerts cytotoxic effects against human promyelocytic leukemia, hepatocellular carcinoma, chronic myelogenous leukemia, epidermoid carcinoma, and breast adenocarcinoma cells. Gweicurculactone can be used for the research of leukemia, hepatocellular carcinoma, epidermoid carcinoma of the mouth, breast adenocarcinoma [1].
In Vitro, Gweicurculactone (compound 5) (72 h) potently inhibits the growth of HL-60, HepG2, K562, KB, and MCF-7 cell lines with IC50 values of 0.14 μg/mL (HL-60), 1.7 μg/mL (HepG2), 0.29 μg/mL (K562), 1.53 μg/mL (KB), and 0.86 μg/mL (MCF-7)[1].
