(S)-HPMPA is an antiviral agent. (S)-HPMPA can bind to and interfere with viral DNA polymerase activity, thereby inhibiting viral DNA synthesis. (S)-HPMPA can be used for the study of DNA viruses [1] [2].
In Vitro, (S)-HPMPApp is a good substrate for vaccinia DNA polymerase, readily incorporating into the DNA strand without causing strand termination; instead, it exerts its inhibitory effect by inhibiting 3'-to-5' exonuclease activity and blocking template strand elongation[1]. (S)-HPMPA (1-100 μg/mL, 24-72 h) can effectively inhibit viral replication in primary rabbit kidney cells[2].
