DSPE-PEG 2000 is a PEG liposome that can be used to form micelles as nanoparticles for drug delivery[1]. Mixed micelles (DSPE-PEG 2000/DSPE-PEG 3400-2C5/PHIS-PEG 2000) can enhance tumor cell-specific internalization and trigger rapid drug release, thereby improving anticancer drug efficacy[2]. DSPE-PEG 2000 micellar formulations can greatly increase the solubility and circulation time of rapamycin, while also greatly reducing nonspecific toxicity[3]. DSPE-PEG 2000 exists in equilibrium between monomeric, micellar, and bovine serum albumin (BSA)-bound states, and this equilibrium shifts toward the BSA-bound state when the temperature increases from 20 to 37°C[4].
