α-Thujene is a hydrogenated monoterpene hydrocarbon. α-Thujene exists in the essential oils of fresh leaves of Crassocephalum rubens and leaves of Photinia serrulata. The essential oil from fresh Crassocephalum rubens leaves containing α-Thujene exhibits potent antibacterial activity. α-Thujene is used in studies on infections caused by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus [1] [2].
In Vitro, α-Thujene constitutes 4.6% of the essential oil extracted from fresh Crassocephalum rubens leaves, as identified via GC and GC-quadruple mass spectrometry[1]. α-Thujene constitutes 5.47% of the leaf essential oil extracted from Photinia serrulata[2].
