The 4-Nitro-Z (pNZ) group has gained interest as semipermanent Nε protecting group in combination with Fmoc/tBu/Aloc. It can be removed selectively with SnCl?/HCl in DMF. E-2960 is used as inactive control in studies using the DPP IV inhibitors H-Lys(4-nitro-Z)-pyrrolidide, N-1710, and H-Lys(4-nitro-Z)-thiazolidide.
