Deslanoside is a kind of steroid-like compounds extensively used to treat numerous heart conditions, such as cardiac arrhythmias and hypotension, by primarily inhibiting the Na+/K+-ATPase[1,2,3].
In vitro, Deslanoside inhibited cell viability in a dose-dependent manner, the 48-hour IC50 values were 8410nM, 370nM, and 180nM, for 22Rv1, PC-3, and DU 145, respectively, while 8.84μM for normal human prostatic epithelial cells (RWPE-1)[3]. The 48-hour IC50 values were 0.10μM, 0.05μM, 0.19μM, 0.07μM, and 0.12μM for A2780, A2780/CP, HCA46, HT29 and HCT116 respectively[4].
In vivo, treatment of 22Rv1 and PC-3 prostate cancer nude mouse subcutaneous tumor models with Deslanoside (5mg/kg; i.p.; 5 days per week; for 3 weeks), Deslanoside significantly inhibited tumor growth, the inhibition rates of 22Rv1 and PC-3 transplanted tumors were approximately 80% and 55%, respectively[3].
