Description

Episterol is an Ergosterol biosynthetic intermediate. Episterol replaces Ergosterol as the major sterol in Saccharomyces cerevisiae Δerg3 mutants, confers resistance to combined lethal and vacuole-disruptive actions of Amphotericin B and MC12 [1].

In Vitro, Episterol accumulation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae Δerg3 mutant cells eliminates the synergistic antifungal activity between Amphotericin B and MC12, resulting in an indifferent drug interaction with an FIC index of 2.00[1].
