It requires one zinc ion to maintain enzyme activity and four calcium ions to maintain structural stability. Thermolysin (Geobacillus stearothermophilus (EC 3.4.24.27) specifically catalyzes the hydrolysis of peptide bonds containing hydrophobic amino acids.
