(-)-Vesamicol (AH5183) is an inhibitor of acetylcholine transport into synaptic vesicles, with the IC50 of 75 nM. (-)-Vesamicol can be used for release and recycling of synaptic vesicles study. Furthermore, radiolabeled derivatives of vesamicol function as specific ligands for mapping the density of presynaptic cholinergic terminals in studies of cognitive dysfunction.
