5-Aminoallylcytidine-5'-triphosphate (AA-CTP) can be used in the same biochemical and diagnostic applications as 5-Aminoallyluridine-5'-triphosphate (AA-UTP) (Silverman et al., Bruning et al.). AA-CTP is a good substrate for RNA polymerase and leads to a higher transcription yield of 5-aminoallyl residues than the use of AA-UTP (Baum et al.). After transcription, 5-aminoallyl-C residues can be labeled with a fluorescent dye, biotin or other functional group through amino conjugation. AA-CTP can also be labeled or modified prior to transcription as modified-AA-CTP derivatives are typically substrates for RNA polymerase.
