Docosahexaenoic acid-d5 (DHA-d5) is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of DHA by GC- or LC-MS. DHA is an essential fatty acid and the most abundant ω-3 fatty acid in neural tissues, especially in the retina and brain.1 DHA constitutes as much as 40% of the total polyunsaturated fatty acid pool in retinal and neuronal membranes. Neonatal DHA deprivation leads to developmental defects and can lead to hypertension in rats.2 Docosahexaenoic acid-d5 MaxSpec• standard is a quantitative grade standard of docosahexaenoic acid-d5 that has been prepared specifically for mass spectrometry and related applications where quantitative reproducibility is required. The solution has been prepared gravimetrically and is supplied in a deactivated glass ampule sealed under argon. The concentration was verified by comparison to an independently prepared calibration standard. This docosahexaenoic acid-d5 MaxSpec• standard is guaranteed to meet identity, purity, stability, and concentration specifications and is provided with a batch-specific certificate of analysis.
