Orotidine, a pyrimidine nucleoside composed of ribose and orotic acid, can be found in urinary excretion [1]. Orotidine is formed by the irreversible dephosphorylation of orotidine-5′-phosphate [2]. Orotidine is widely used as a novel biomarker for the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases associated with type 2 diabetes [3].
