Isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP) is a precursor in the biosynthesis of isoprenoids.1 It is formed from acetyl-CoA via the mevalonate pathway, and it can be isomerized to dimethylallyl disphosphate by IPP isomerase. IPP can also be formed from pyruvate and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate via the nonmevalonate pathway.
