Methyl cellulose es un éter celulosaico no iónico con propiedades termogelificantes únicas y sin toxicidad[1]. Methyl es un polímero sintético y soluble en agua compuesto por muchas moléculas de glucosa enlazadas,utilizadas como estabilizador,espesante y emulsionante en los alimetos y cosméticos[2]. Methyl puede utilizarse para preparar matrices semisólidas como geles de cultivo celular para el cultivo de las células formadoras de colonias[3, 4]. Methyl puede utilizarse como sustituto del glicerol en medios de criopreservación y junto con suplementos de cultivo para potenciar la proliferación y diferenciación de las células progenitoras hematopoyéticas comprometidos con múltiples o monolíneas[5].Es difícil preparar una solución de Methyl en agua fría;cuando el polvo entra en contacto con el agua,forma una capa de gel a su alrededor,lo que ayuda a acelerar la disolución en condiciones de agitación caliente[6].
