Spantide I TFA es un análogo de la sustancia P y es un antagonista selectivo del receptor de neuroquinina-1 (NK1) en el sistema nervioso. Su valor Ki para los receptores NK1 y NK2 son 230 nM y 8150 nM, respectivamente. Spantide I puede reducir significativamente la perforación corneal al disminuir los niveles de citocinas tipo 1 e incrementar las citocinas tipo 2 IL-10 durante una infección ocular.
