Pristanic acid-d3 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of pristanic acid by GC- or LC-MS. Pristanic acid is a saturated 19-carbon branched-chain fatty acid that has been found in human plasma.1 It can be formed from phytanic acid via α-oxidation or obtained from dietary sources.2 Pristanic acid activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) in cell-based transactivation assays with a median EC50 value of 40 μM.1 Elevated levels of pristanic acid have been found in the plasma of patients with peroxisome biogenesis defects.2
