Br-DAPI es un tinte de marcaje de la serie DAPI. DAPI es un tinte fluorescente que se une fuertemente al ADN. DAPI se une a los pares de bases A/T en las ranuras pequeñas del ADN de doble cadena (1 molécula de DAPI puede ocupar la posición de 3 pares de bases), lo que aumenta la intensidad fluorescente aproximadamente 20 veces. Observando la intensidad fluorescente, se puede cuantificar el ADN. DAPI también puede penetrar a través de la membrana celular intacta y se utiliza comúnmente para teñir células vivas y fijas.
