Melatonin-d3 es un isotopo de deuterio de la melatonina. La melatonina es una hormona producida por la glándula pineal que activa los receptores de melatonina. La melatonina tiene efectos en el sueño y también posee importantes propiedades antioxidantes y antiinflamatorias. Es un nuevo inhibidor selectivo del ATF-6, que puede inducir la apoptosis en células hepáticas humanas a través de la regulación negativa del COX-2. Además, la melatonina reduce el estrés del retículo endoplásmico y disminuye la apoptosis celular inducida por ácido palmítico en células granulares de ratones.
