β-Asaroneはイチョウの根茎の主成分であり、中枢神経系(CNS)に顕著な薬理作用がある[1-3]。β-Asaronは血液脳関門(BBB)を通過することができる[4]。β-AsaronはMAO-A(IC50=142±18µM)とMAO-B(IC50=362±43µM)を阻害できる。
β-Asarone (30 µg/mL)はPC12細胞におけるプロテインキナーゼA通路を活性化することでCREBをリン酸化し、そこで、神経成長因子(NGF)が誘導したニューロン分化を増加する[6]。β-AsaroneはLPSが活性化したBV-2ミクログリアおよびうつ病に対して神経の活性の保護がある[2,7-8]。
β-Asarone(20および30 mg/kg/d)はラットの脳虚血と再灌流後の神経行動機能の神経学的結果を改善することができる[9]。β-Asaroneはβ-アミロイド海馬を注射したラットの神経細胞のアポトーシスを阻害することにより、認知機能を改善する [10]。
