Methoprene (ZR-515)은 유아 호르몬 유사물(JHA)에 속하는 성장 조절 살충제이다. 유아 호르몬의 효과를 모방하고 곤충의 정상적인 발육 주기를 방해해서 해충 개체 그룹의 성장을 억제한다. Methoprene은 모기 유충(예: 아데스와 쿨렉스)을 제어하는데 널리 사용되고 성충으로의 발육을 차단해서 덴기열과 지카 바이러스와 같은 모기 매개 질병의 확산을 줄인다[2]. Methoprene은 모기 변태 과정에서 중장의 재구성을 방해할 수 있다[3]. Methoprene은 비표적 생물(예: 포유류와 새)에 대해 극도로 저독성이고 우수한 환경 안전성을 가지고 있고 통합 해충 관리(IPM) 시스템에 적합한다[4].
체외 실험에서 Methoprene(0-200μM)으로 Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 세포 라인을 24-72시간 처리하면 세포 증식을 용량 및 시간 의존적으로 억제하고 세포 G2/M기 지연을 현저하게 유도했다[5].
체내 실험에서 Methoprene(2, 50, 200μg/L)으로 체리새우 Neocaridina Davidi를 처리하면 체장과 탈피 빈도를 감소시키고 외골격 발달과 탄수화물,펩타이드, 지질 대사를 교란했다[6].
