Digitonin ist ein steroidales Saponin, das oft als mildes nichtionisches Detergens verwendet wird[1]. Digitonin wird auch als Cholesterin-Fällungsmittel eingesetzt[2]. Digitonin erhöht die Zellpermeabilität durch spezifische Bindung an Cholesterin in der Zellmembran[4].
Digitonin zeigte eine hohe Aktivität gegen Caco-2 und MCF-7 mit IC50-Werten von 15.72 ± 0.16 bzw. 5.23 ± 0.61µM. Kombinationen des SM-Panels mit einer nicht-toxischen Digitonin(2 oder 5 µM) erhöhten generell die Zytotoxizität in Caco-2- und MCF-7-Zellen[3]. Eine Vorbehandlung mit Digitonin erhöht die Tumoraufnahmme von Carboplatin und verstärkt die zytotoxische Wirkung[4].
