Histatin 5 is a salivary antimicrobial peptide.1,2,3 It is active against C. albicans (LC50 = 1.8 µM), as well as A. baumannii, P. aeruginosa, and E. cloacae (MICs = 38, 47, and 90 µM, respectively).1,2 Topical application of histatin 5 (20 µM) decreases fungal burden in a mouse model of C. albicans-induced vulvovaginal candidiasis.3
