α-Factor Mating Pheromone, yeast (Mating Factor α)は、Saccharomyces cerevisiaeのMATα型細胞によって連続的に合成および分泌される13アミノ酸ペプチドホルモンであり、MATA型細胞に特異的に作用することができる[1]。α-Factor Mating Pheromone, yeast (Mating Factor α)はMATA細胞の表面上のGたんぱく質の共役受容体Ste2p結合し、細胞周期停止、形態学的な変化および交配関連の遺伝子の発現を引き起こす。この因子は結合(KD =0.3μm)のために放射性の標識³⁵S-α-ファクターと競合できる。α-Factor Mating Pheromone, yeast (Mating Factor α)の熱感受性Ste2変異体への結合は熱的な不安定であり、ほかの変異体(Ste4,Ste5,Ste7,Ste11和Ste12)との結合はそうではない[2]。α-Factor Mating Pheromone, yeast (Mating Factor α)は酵母を誘発して、交配状態に入るためによく使用され、外来のたんぱく質の分泌と発現に広く使用している[3]。
