N-3-Oxo-octanoyl-L-homoserine lactoneはN-アシルホモセリンラクトン(AHL)ファミリーに属するクオラムセンシングシグナル分子であり、細菌のコミュニケーションとバイオフィルムの形成に関する研究によく使われている[1]。N-3-Oxo-octanoyl-L-homoserine lactoneは、防御反応をプライミングすることでアラビドプシスを半栄養性病原体から保護し、N-3-Oxo-octanoyl-L-homoserine lactone媒介の準備にSAシグナル経路が必要である[2]。N-3-Oxo-octanoyl-L-homoserine lactoneの事前処理(10μM;2日間)は、病原細菌Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000に感染させた後、Arabidopsisは、peroxidase, catalase, phenylalanine ammonialyaseとsuperoxide dismutaseなどの防御関連酵素の活性を増やした[2]。N-3-Oxo-octanoyl-L-homoserine lactoneは、植物保護に広く使われ、新しい検出と分析法の開発に対する内部参照としても使われる[3]。
