Protopine(Protopine)은 Corydalis ternata에서 분리된 알칼로이드로 아세틸콜린에스터라제 활성을 IC₅₀ 50 μM으로 억제한다. Protopine은 혈소판 내 Ca²⁺의 방출과 유입을 억제해서 혈소판 응집을 억제한다[2]. Protopine은 세포 및 동물 모델에서 항염증제로 일반적으로 사용되고 다양한 염증 인자의 발현을 억제한다[3].
체외 실험에서 Protopine 48시간 처리는 PC-3와 DU-145 세포 증식을 현저하게 억제하였으며, IC₅₀는 각각 13.0 ± 1.7 μM과 15.8 ± 1.6 μM이었다[4]. 40 μM Protopine 24시간 처리는 HepG2 세포 생존력을 현저하게 억제하고 시스테인-의존적으로 내인성 경로를 통해 세포자멸사를 유도하면서 세포 내 활성산소(ROS)를 축적시켰다[5]. 50 μM Protopine으로 30분간 전처리하면 H₂O₂로 인한 PC12 세포 손상을 효과적으로 보호해서 MDA 수치를 낮추고 H₂O₂에 의해 감소된 SOD, 글루타티온 과산화효소와 카탈라아제의 활성을 회복시켰다[6].
체내 실험에서CCl₄ 노출 전 쥐에게 2일간 1일 2회 경구 11 mg/kg Protopine을 전처치하면 CCl₄에 의한 혈청 아스파르트트랜스아미나제(AST) 와 알라닌 트랜스아미나제(ALT) 상승을 방지하였다 [7]. 3일간 (3.92mg/kg/day; i.p.) 국소 뇌허혈 쥐의 뇌경색률과 혈청 LDH 활성을 낮추고 허혈성 신경학적 기능부전 및 뇌 조직 병리학적 변화를 개선하였다 [8].
