5α,6α-エポキシコレスタノールは、酸化によって生成されるコレステロールの代謝産物であるオキシステロールです。タモキシフェンとPBPEの投与後、反応性酸素種依存的なMCF-7乳がん細胞内に蓄積し、肝臓x受容体β(LXRβ)に結合して三アシルグリセロール生合成を誘導します。[2] 5α,6α-エポキシコレスタノールの量は、去勢手術後ラット大動脈および腸間膜動脈で増加し、DHA補充食品によって防止することができます。[1]また、アルツハイマー病患者の死後前頭部および側頭部皮質でも増加しています。[3]
